The annual Adrian Fish Junior Trios will take place at the club on Thursday 20th August 2020 from 9:30 onwards.
The trios is an all day event, with no cost to participate for juniors. Players will need their own packed lunches & plenty of fluids for the day.
The event is for hard ball players so all players will need full protection & equipment & whites. The teams will be drawn on a seeded basis on arrival and they will be in teams of 3. There is always good competition on the day with a trophy to be won and names on the honours board.
Adrian Fish joined Stretford in 1975 aged 11 along with his brother Gareth, who was 12 (older brother Stuart had joined in 1973). Adrian was at school with Mike Laker (Chris and Mathew’s dad), while Gareth was in the same school cricket team as Guy Robinson. The two brothers played for the under 13s, then the under 15s, who were the first junior league champions. When they moved up to the under 18s they repeated their success with another championship. He finished his junior career stuck on a hat-trick when he dismissed the last two batsmen in successive balls to win the final match of the season. Adrian was a keen senior player who became a 2nd team regular. He bowled off-spin and liked to field on the boundary where his big hands and long throw surprised plenty of unsuspecting batsmen.
Off the field he used his practical skills around the club, helping to run the bar and keep the place well maintained. When the pavilion was completely refurbished in 1985 Adrian and his dad John led the reconstruction of the bar and kitchen. The new club was officially reopened by the local MP and the Mayor made a presentation to John and Adrian Fish and three others in recognition of their efforts.
Sadly two years later Adrian was taken ill and died in 1988. The club had occasionally organised a junior trios, one of which Adrian won, so the Adrian Fish Junior Trios was launched as a fitting memorial to him.
We hope you are all able to take part or support the trios to make it fun, competitive and a very enjoyable day.
